Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

  • Identify server hardware/software configurations necessary for running Oracle in an optimal and highly available fashion
  • Utilize and refine existing processes for database software installation and configuration
  • Build and maintain Oracle Real Application Cluster environments (Oracle RAC)
  • Build and maintain Disaster Recovery implementations using Oracle Data Guard
  • Adhere to database/environment standards and recommends changes as necessary
  • Review performance statistics and alerts, recommending changes for tuning databases, servers, and storage configurations, as well as application SQL
  • Participate in periodic readiness testing including testing restores to ensure database backup mechanisms are reliable
  • Develop new backup, recovery, upgrade and migrations processes help to increase efficiency, scalability and uptime
  • Assume ownership of database related problems
  • Pursue problem resolution and root cause analysis
  • Develop strategy for migrating to new releases of Oracle and installing oracle patches
  • Coordinate interaction with customers in critical database problem situations
  • Proactively develop and improve processes for preventing customer impact
  • Learn and stay current on the features and functionality of the latest Oracle versions
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and standards
  • Participate in database upgrades and migrations to new data centers
  • Leverage Oracle standby databases for various tasks including data recovery, migrations, upgrades, and disaster recovery
  • Learn and experiment with new database technologies that will extend MercuryGate’s SaaS products (e.g. NoSQL, Cassandra, Hive, MongoDB, Swift, etc.)
  • Leverage scripting and PL/SQL experience to resolve issues and automate the managements MercuryGate’s SaaS environment at scale
  • Use configuration managements tools to automate the management of MercuryGate’s SaaS environment
  • Leverage experience with Oracle Docker containers research and develop new techniques to consolidate server resources in non-production environments
  • Leverage experience with Container and pluggable databases to consolidate server resources in non-production environments
  • Leverage SQL performance tuning experience to mitigate production performance issues and to ensure database upgrades maintain high levels of system response time
  • Participate in a 24X7 on-call rotation, as well as providing Subject Matter Expert support to the on-call DBA as needed

Job Qualifications & Other Requirements

Must have:

  • Solid experience managing Oracle databases on versions 12c and 11g
  • Experience upgrading from major versions (10g to 11g, 11g to 12c, etc.)
  • Experience patching Oracle DB (OPatch, minor patching, etc.)
  • Experience with backing up and recovering with RMAN
  • Experience with backing up and restoring with DataPump
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining Oracle DataGuard


Have one or more of the following:

  • Experience working with Oracle Container/Pluggable databases
  • Willingness to support production databases in a 24x7 production environment 
  • Experience managing databases on either Windows or Linux
  • Shell scripting and/or java programming skills


Nice to have:

  • Experience with creating and managing Oracle standby databases
  • Experience managing other databases such as MS SQL, Sybase,     
  • Experience managing NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, HBase, MongoDB, Aerospike, CouchDB
  • Experience managing NewSQL databases such as VoltDB, NuoDB, MemSQL, Clustrix
